5th Annual Youth Advocacy Training
April 25, 2007

Dina Kania of Indonesia shares examples of
what Philip Morris is up to in her country

Dover Youth 2 Youth (NH) kicked off the training with an excellent multimedia presentation detailing Philip Morris’ “History of Lies.” Next up were a series of short presentations related to “What Philip Morris is Up to Around the World.” Youth with the reACT! (MT) gave a superb presentation, based on blogs, websites, and internal tobacco industry documents, on Marlboro’s “Crazy Ranch” in Montana.

Dina Kania of the National Commission for Child Protection (Indonesia) gave a shocking presentation on how Philip Morris International is targeting youth in her country. Among other things, she detailed the company's recent "Marlboro The Ride" contest in which young Indonesians could submit motorcycle designs and win a road trip in the U.S., with 3 route options, including one starting in Montana! Check out Dina's photos

Anna White of Essential Action (DC) then shared examples of what Philip Morris is up to in other countries, including: Argentina, Bahrain, Dominican Republic, India, Japan, Pakistan, Poland, Romania, Russia, Senegal, Ukraine, and the UK. Check out the world tour

The remainder of the training focused on advocacy skill-building workshops, e.g. working with the media, making effective visuals, event coordination, developing chants, creating zines, and preparations for those going into the Altria shareholder meeting.
