President
of the United States
The
White House

Pennsylvania Ave., N.W.
Washington,
D.C. 20500
Dear
President Bush:
On
behalf of the Chicago City Council and the 75 other local elected bodies that
have adopted resolutions urging an alternative to preemptive war against Iraq,
I am writing to request a meeting with you on Thursday February 13, preferably
in the morning some time around 11:00a.m.
Joining me will be 30 other city council members from cities throughout
the nation who have passed resolutions on the possible war with Iraq.
We
deeply appreciate your efforts to keep our nation safe from terror and
destruction. At the same time, we and
the millions of citizens whose voices we have heard and whose views we
represent, believe that a unilateral military action against Iraq will put our
nation, our cities and our neighborhoods at great risk.
We
come to Washington respectfully to discuss these issues with you and our
congressional leaders. We believe that
as leaders who are in daily contact with our constituents we have valuable
insights to share.
We
hope that you or your staff will find the time to meet with us. We would appreciate a response from your
office as soon as possible, either through email at [email protected] or via my
phone at 773-848-5796.
Thank
you for your consideration. We look
forward to a productive discussion.
Sincerely,
Joseph
A. Moore
Alderman, Chicago City Council
