I have no intention of applying for funding or working on any grant from the tobacco industry. I don't do tobacco-related research, and my work generally yields data that confirms the health risks of tobacco smoke exposure. I am well-known for my stand against the public use of tobacco, and was instrumental in achieving the ban on smoking on US aircraft. I was asked specifically to review grants in my own field of research (which the tobacco industry should support, since they contribute to the harm caused).
